It’s not that often that a major “day off” holiday comes on a Friday these days. I, in fact, also have half a day off on the 3rd. Unlike our many Monday holidays, most of the establishments I report on will be open, and many will have special events. Our current heat wave seems about to continue with highs in the 90s into July 4th, so I will be trying to keep up with any events that might be cancelled or moved indoors.
Every once in awhile, I see a post on my socials about some now place that’s coming “soon.” Then later, say a year or two, the new place is BOOM, suddenly open. Well, I’ve had a notice about a brewpub space that is still in progress, as in getting its licenses and permits, but it happens to be close to me. Blume & Ferris Public House is redoing an industrial/office at Belmont and Curtiss in Downers Grove. It appears they are setting up an Irish-style pub, which also happens to have a brewery in it. The quest for authenticity goes so far as having the bar and millwork built by a joinery in Ireland, then disassembled and shipped here. And their web page is showing some fermenters being brought over from Werk Force. I don’t know how they’ll bring the ambiance of an old-fashioned pub to a former kitchen and bath showroom in an industrial park, but of course I’ll be checking it out when I get a chance. And they will have the attraction of being just around the block from Alter Brewing, and a short walk from Metra’s Belmont station.
