Beer Preview: Paulaner Pils

Time to sit in front of my iPad, comb my hair, and do another One Take Beer Review. I did comb my hair, didn’t I?

Paulaner Pils
Paulaner Pils

With Oktoberfest season over, Paulaner Brauerei has imported its Pils. This is a German version of Pilsener, a style they’ve been making in Bavaria since the 1860’s.
Paulaner USA sent me a 500 ml can (16.9 oz.). I followed their recommended small pilsener flute to try it out in.
Pilsener is a style that’s hard to do well even harder to import and keep good. This one managed it, though. In my flute, it’s a bright straw-to-gold color, with a slight stream of bubbles feeding a puffy head.
My nose is none too delicate these days, but I started to notice the slightly peppery noble hop, and the basic “beer” smell of years past. It stands as a good version of the style. Again, some noble hop up front of the tongue, then a slightly malty taste. All this “lightness” makes it hard to call it an “extreme” but this is good.
What is this good to pair with this season? Cold weather foods tend to favor beers brewed in colder countries. This could pair with meats or preserved vegetables, fitting between courses of a holiday meal while waiting to bring out the dark and heavy beers for dessert.
