Updating
Every day or so, I poke at cleaning up this site. After some 13 years, there are a lot of loose ends.
When the ChicagøNow site shut down a few years ago, I was able to rescue my posts and the smallest versions of my photos. Somehow my header photos at the top were in a separate WordPress database that disappeared.
I managed to change all my internal links to refer to beeronaut.com. Then I searched my posts that still had links to ChicagøNow, to relink to the photos. I have now found that if an old post was crawled by Archive.com, I can find it, with the full-size photo on The Wayback Machine. I’ve been working to tidy up my beer reviews, even for beers and brewers that are long gone, since that’s the closest I have to “evergreen” posts. I keep deleting my oldest calendar articles every few months in the meantime.
From there I have to catch and void out my dead links, whether to old ratebeer reviews, or to other dead brewers’ sites. I’ve read that with the internet some dozens of years old, a huge number of posts are dead. And dead links also affect my SEO.
Also still need to modernize my other blog, markmcdermott.com. Still don’t have time to write new, non-beer articles, but I can still update its features. I did put a link to a different article that the 3-year old one at the bottom of this page.
