A few news items for this week:
Two Brothers
The west suburban Two Brothers Artisan Brewing has a large presence at its Roundhouse in Aurora. But its original Warrenville brewpub has been somewhat off the beaten track. Last week the Daily Herald posted an update about founders Jim and Jason Ebel’s plans for a new taphouse.
The new spot would be part of a planned apartment and restaurant complex, being developed at an unused corner of Rt. 59 and Butterfield Rd. This would be just a few hundred yards from the current brewery location in a Warrenville industrial park, and would allow for expansion at the production site. The start of construction has not yet been scheduled.
Beer Culture Summit
An advance notice about the Beer Culture Summit, a presentation of the Beer Culture Center, which kicks off this Thursday. There will be presentations and discussions on several historical and cultural aspects of beer, from Trappist monks to modern Native American brewers, and on John Gilroy’s Toucan mascot for Guinness. Venues include the Newberry Library, the Village Tap, and Suncatcher Brewing, with many presentations available online. Check the link up there to register.
Great Central
Great Central Brewing had abruptly closed down their Chicago Brewing District facility last year without an announcement. This week, a couple who had reserved their space for a wedding reception, went public to note that they were not informed of the closing, and no one was refunding their $5,400 deposit (ABC7 Chicago). The story broke last Thursday, about the same time that the bride-to-be posted on Reddit, and she later updated that the CEO had gotten in touch with her.
Great Central opened in 2016 as a client production brewery, sizing up and packaging batches for smaller brewers like Maplewood, Begyle, Pollyanna, and Illuminated, among other clients. The owners were a father-son team of real estate developers, Dwight and David Avram, and was apparently part of the collateral used to secure a large loan which they were unable to keep current on their payments (The Real Deal).
