We’ve had a few “one door closes” stories lately. Now here are some “another door opens” stories.
The space for the former Casa Humilde brewery, 7700 W. Madison in Forest Park, will be opening with a new concept. Sendero is a restaurant featuing the vibe of a cantina, highlighting Oaxacan flavor. The project is by Casa Humilde’s José López, who had to close the taproom in March after a falling out with his brother and business partner, Javier. López plans to serve at least one house-brewed beer, along with local guest taps, micheladas, and Mexican beer served in iconic 32-ounce bottles (caguamas). (Eater.com)
The former Blue Island Brewing Co. has a new tenant: Marz COmmunity Brewing has signed a five-year lease on the space at 13357 Old Western Ave. Marz president Ed Marszewski said they hope to expand with a distillery a large beverage and food menu, and decorating with a “tiki-bar, pirate-inspired theme.”
Blue Island Brewing was closed in June after being placed in foreclosure. Co-owner Bryan Shimkos claimed he was being forced out by the village, in favor of another restaurant concept that never opened. (Chicago Tribune)
