Some more brewery goings on:
Flossmoor Station Restaurant & Brewery is being put up for sale. Carolyn and Dean Armstrong, on the occasion of the brewpub’s 30th Anniversary, announced to their staff they would sell it and retire. Any potential buyer has not been mentioned. (Homewood-Flossmoor Chronicle)
Floosmoor Station opened in 1996, converting the now 120-year old Metra Electric station into a brewpub. Its brewery works were squeezed into the tight lower level. They went through several prominent brewers, including Todd Ashman, later of FiftyFifty, and Matt Van Wyk, later with Oakshire and Alesong. Their beers have taken several competion awards, especially their barrel-aged program, and they were named “Best Small Brewpub & Best Small Brewpub Brewer in America” at the 2006 Great American Beer Festival.
Not in our area, but of some interest: The Guinness Open Gate Brewery in Baltimore announced it will be closing its doors on November 1. The outlet opened in 2018, serving original Guinness on draught, house-made beers, and taps from other Guinness brewers worldwide. The operation is mirrored in the Open Gate Chicago, which opened on W. Kinzie in 2023. So far, the Chicago brewery is going along.
One brief note: Pollyanna Brewing, which acquired the assets of Alarmist Brewing earlier this year, has announced they now have their flagship beers in cans at all their locations. Currently you can find their For now, you’ll find Pantsless Pale Ale and Le Jus, a GABF Gold medal-winning Hazy IPA. Next up is the Crispy Boy Pils.
And the White Sox postseason is going well into the week. I will try to post any special viewings as I find them.
