Lock & Mule
The Lock & Mule gastropub closed its doors in Lockport this past week. The restaurant was one of a string of restaurants opened by Tangled Roots Brewing Co., based in Ottawa, IL. The management has chosen not assign nameany of a several factors that could lead to a restaurant’s closing in this difficult day and age.
Lock & Mule’s location, across Lockport’s State St. from Nik & Ivy, is already slated to be developed into a “farm to plate” restaurant concept.
Tangled Roots still operates restaurants in South Barrington, Glenview, Vernon Hills, and in Washington, IL, near Peoria.
Whiskey Hill
Here’s a chance to own a turnkey brewing operation! Whiskey Hill, now located in a brewpub at downtown Westmont, is selling their original production brewery. The complete setup is located in an industrial park off 63rd Street in Westmont, and boasts a full production brewing operation, plus a taproom. This is where the brewer started out as Urban Legend Brewing, later changing its name to Myths & Legends, before new ownership took on the Whiskey Hill name.
I would think a lot of brewers that have gone out of business lately would have equipment for sale. But I’ve been usually the bank takes it over and sellsstuff off piecemeal.
Header: A label from Frank McDermott Brewing (no relation) of Chicago. Frank, a State Senator, ran his brewery on Racine in Bridgeport from 1925 to 1937. Could he actualy have managed to open a brewery DURING Prohibition?
