Fat Tuesday is here and in Chicago that means pączki. Inspired by dipping doughnuts in coffee, Goose Island brewer, Emily, came up with this riff on our classic bourbon barrel-aged stout. After aging for a full year in bourbon barrels, apricot, strawberry, plum and freshly roasted Dark Matter Fuego coffee were added. It’s pretty much a Polish breakfast in glass. WHAT THE HECK IS TREBERWURST?
Based on a Swiss tradition where vineyard workers would warm up their snack sausage in pomace heated by the hot steam coming out of the top of a still, it was eventually adapted by beer brewers like us. Every once in a while we’ll take a couple, two, tree sausages and heat them up in fresh spent grain from the day’s brew.

So it’s been about a year of the Off Color Book Club co-hosted with Books with Betsy at Mousetrap and we’re f%*king ready for year 2. To the 25-30 regulars, thanks for helping us make this a thing and continuing to show up. For anyone who is interested in joining the party, we got room for more :)
Knowing not everyone has time to read a book every month or make it to every meetup (or you just want to get ahead of things), we’re releasing the entire schedule for the next twelve months all at once. If you haven’t attended before, just read the book and swing through on the appropriate Tuesday. It’s a pretty casual gathering of 25-30 that breaks up into groups of 6-8 for smaller contained discussions. If you have any questions, shoot us a message and feel free to RSVP by responding to this email or sending us a message on social media.
We’ll get things off to a lighter start in January, reading Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir, a highly entertaining novel about an astronaut on a solo mission to save our planet from an extinction event. And if you’re trying to picture the main character while you’re reading, Ryan Gosling was cast to play the role in the movie releasing in March.
Since it’s Dry January, our pairing beer is our newest NA Chicha de Molle, Day of the Jaguar.
