Chicago Week in Beer, June 24-27

In my roundup of brewery closings and expansions this weekend, I needed to spread my net a little wider.

As a native of Iowa, I had followed the startup of Peace Tree Brewing 15 years ago in Knoxville with great interest. It would have been one of the first new breweries outside of the larger cities. I was able to visit their taproom in Knoxville (“Sprint Car Racing Capital of the World”) a few after they opened. Later, they expanded to a taproom in Des Moines. This week, they announced they would cease brewing operations. The original plan had been to keep operating the taprooms by rotating in guest taps, but later they announced they were being required to close the Des Moines location.
