It’s been a rough week, but I hashed it over in the video attached. Let’s just say just one beer in the evening makes things a little better. So here’s another look at a beer from Lagunitas Brewing Co., which they sent to me for my comment.
Super Cluster is another in their limited “One-Hitter” series, described by them as a Citra-hopped mega ale of intergalactic proportions. At 8% abv, it’s not quite an “Imperial IPA,” which some people might find a relief.
The pour shows a light body, almost a pale lager color. My pour into a narrow glass kicked up a foamy head. The first sniff is a big hit of Citra, the go-to hop of American Pale Ales. It’s a muggy note of mango, pineapple, citrus, and other undefinable tropical fruit. Not noticeably piney or resiny in the nose.
And again, there’s plenty of Citra fruitiness in the taste, and despite the extra oomph of alcohol, not much malt to match the hops. The alcohol starts to build as I go further into the glass.
I think it’s kind of strong to match with food on a hot summer day. More of a stand-alone when everything else has been put away.
