Quite a long beer name to add to my roundup of St. Patrick’s Day-type beers. But when you run into variations on a series, it can’t be helped.

So this beer, provided by Louis Glunz Beer, is from Noon Whistle Brewing in Lombard, just a few miles away. This is one in their “Bernie” series of stouts. Most of which hover around 5-6% abv, with the occasional Imperial version, too. The Bernie Irish Coffee Milk Stout is available in stores, in cans. It’s described as “A slightly sweeter take on the same dark and delicious profile with strong coffee and light cream flavors. The perfect beer for your favorite parade.”
So, the pour as shown here, comes out deep brown, turning to nearly black in the glass. There’s no nitro in this can, but it still offers a deep tan head, just bit more bubbly than a nitro head that settles to a thin layer. The smell is pretty mild, not flooded ith coffee or roastiness. Just a basic stout to my snout.
The taste has a little more sweetness, as expected of a milk stout, where lactose sugar stays behind after fermentation. I don’t pick up a lot of coffee, perhaps because it blends in with the roast malt, but it’s there in the aftertaste. And a sweet, somewhat milky coat on my lips.
The sweetness might allow you to try an ice cream stout float. Otherwise, it’s a good match for meats and desserts.
