Another bleary week for me, as I am serving as an Election judge. That means setting up Monday evening at the polling place, and then returning at 5 am and setting up quickly enough to open the polls at 6 am.
Much as I would have loved to attend the Festival of Wood and Barrel-Aged Beer this past weekend, the high winds on Saturday would have made it even harder for attendees to get home afterward. But the guys at PorchDrinking.com went, and have the results. Sun King Brewery of Fishers, IN won four medals, and its Caramel Apple Tripel was a runner-up for Best in Show. The Lost Abbey took BoS with its Duck Duck Gooze Anniversary Blend.
This week the Chicago Brewseum is hosting its annual Beer Culture Summit, this Wednesday through Saturday. Live events take place each evening, as detailed below, and virtual lectures are also available to stream. The full list of events is here.
And I am trying to drag together an early list of where to find Bourbon County Stouts and other Black Wednesday/Friday beers. Binny’s has already run its lottery for a chance to buy the beers. Jewel/Osco has not posted its list of which stores will be getting an allotment here. on November 25. Now in previous years, I’ve gone to my local Jewel on Black Friday and found that “the beer truck hasn’t come in yet.” So keep your schedule loose.
